About Greg Munks

A proponent of community-driven law enforcement, Gregory "Greg" Munks most recently served as sheriff of San Mateo County. Through nearly a decade in this role, he managed a $240 million budget and 750 employees responsible for providing law enforcement services throughout the county and at San Francisco International Airport. As sheriff, Greg Munks also managed court and jail security and served on the Domestic Violence Council, Vehicle Theft Task Force, and Narcotics Task Force. In addition, he managed the Office of Emergency Services.

In regard to his efforts to engage the communities which he served, Greg Munks helped develop the Community Alliance to Rebuild our Neighborhood project while serving as undersheriff in San Mateo County. Among other accomplishments, this initiative proved successful in decreasing instances of gang violence in North Fair Oaks.

Gregory Munks served as an undersheriff with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office for 13 years and previously worked in its human resources department, where he streamlined department training procedures and established an Internal Affairs tracking program. He spent the first dozen years of his career as an officer in the Palo Alto Police Department. Supplementing his extensive experience, he holds an MBA from Golden Gate University and a bachelor's degree in business and accounting from Menlo College.
